Yes, folks passengers on your boat should have some knowledge of boating safety.

What skills does a passenger need? If your boat operator becomes incapacitated, spouses and children old enough to learn should know how to handle and operate your boat.

Family members who are regular passengers should have a basic understanding of the navigation rules and one or more should become certified to administer CPR.

Someone on board other than the captain should know where first aid kits, Flares, whistles, distress flags, horns and fire extinguishers are. If life jackets are not already dawned when the incident occurs, everyone should put them on.
